imposter

I don’t have imposter syndrome. I have whatever the opposite is, an indignant certainty that I belong at the table and cannot fucking believe that I wasn’t invited, that my talent has not been recognized by the gatekeepers.

but.

I am sometimes terrified that other people will think me an imposter, especially when I write science fiction. because the thing is, I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to sci-fi, which is why I pretty much exclusively write stories about people who simply happen to be in sci-fi settings and then give those people no idea how any of it works, because that way I don’t really have to figure it out either.

so there you go: I am in imposter, in one very specific way, and I have absolutely snookered the editor of one of the biggest sci-fi magazines around. twice.
